More PS2 Games Expected in PS Plus Premium as Sony Partners With Emulation Company
Implicit Conversions’ case is a curious one. The studio’s work on PS2 games was thrust into the limelight over the weekend following an interview with TimeExtension.
The website has since retracted the statement regarding Implicit bringing PS2 games to PS5, calling it a “mistake” and issuing an apology.
However, Redditors have found Implicit’s official LinkedIn page, in which the company explicity stated that it’s “working with Sony Interactive Entertainment / PlayStation to bring PS1, PS2, and PSP games to the PS4 and PS5.”
There’s no word on whether or not the PS5 will be able to read your personal collection of PS2 discs. As such, it appears more likely than not that retro PlayStation games brought over to the PS5 by Implicit Conversions will be digital, much like its previous work on PS1 and PSP games – which is locked behind a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.

Xbox Wins Big on PS5
The game in question is Sea of Thieves, one of the four “shared” games in question that Microsoft recently announced. Currently, the $60 premium edition of the game is the #1 pre-order on PlayStation, ahead of The Show ’24, Battlefront Classic Collection and Dragon’s Dogma 2.
That’s a pretty good performance for a 2018 game. Microsoft obviously wants to earn more revenue from the quasi-live game, but the main reason was supposedly to expand the playerbase and keep it healthy.
