Today Digital Foundry has chimed in on the lack of power for the Xbox Series S and why this may end up being an issue that cant be avoided forever.
Xbox Series S is Microsoft’s new generation budget console. It’s less strong than Xbox Series X but stronger than Xbox One. The console seemed like a great choice for whoever wanted to catch the new generation with a cheap price tag. It offers better graphical quality and way more expanded game support for the future. But it looks like the developers’ complaint about the console has already started. Xbox asks the developers to make their games Xbox Series S compatible if they make the game also for Series X. The processing power between the two consoles is huge, so there was a need to optimize the game for the budget console. The developers started to shout their complaints against Xbox Series S support requirement, and here’s why. Developers Don’t Want The Xbox Series S Support Requirement
Studios needed to downscale their games for the Xbox Series S. Yes, Xbox Series S is a new generation console, but it’s not powerful as the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. It’s still powerful to run most of the games we will see in the near future, but it’s also a problem to optimize the games for a budget console. The capabilities of the things are much restricted when they work for a less powerful console. Even if they wanted to reflect their creativity with mind-blowing graphics with Xbox Series X’s power, the Xbox Series S requirement was a barrier.
