Last of Us
Hey, what’s a PlayStation Studios game without a delay? Originally set to debut on PC from the 3rd March, The Last of Us: Part I will now land just over three weeks later, on the 28th March. According to Naughty Dog, this should ensure that the port “lives up to your, and our, standards”.

New Features:
As the PlayStation 5 console continues to evolve, we’re excited to deliver new features to our community. Today, we’re rolling out the next PS5 system software beta with a number of fan-requested features, including Discord voice chat and Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p resolution. We’re also introducing a variety of UX, accessibility and social feature enhancements that make playing with your friends or enjoying your gaming experiences on the PS5 console easier than ever.

Invited beta participants from the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France will receive an email with instructions on how to download the beta and get started. As with previous betas, some features may not make it into the final version or may see significant changes when the final system update releases globally in the coming months.

Cinema Mode:
For many original PSVR owners, Cinematic Mode offered a novel alternative way to enjoy non-VR content on the PS4. It worked by placing you in a virtual space, and broadcasting any content on a gigantic screen in front of you. This feature will return on PSVR2, although it will come with some familiar caveats due to the limitations of the technology.

So, output will be limited to 1920×1080, which is a big improvement on the original PSVR – but is obviously less than the 4K image your television may produce. You’ll also benefit from HDR in PSVR2, which wasn’t available on the original headset. Overall, it’s a pretty big quality bump compared to the original PSVR, but the drawbacks are still there.

One thing of note is that PSVR2’s Cinematic Mode will be able to render at up to 120fps, so if you play any compatible games, you won’t have to sacrifice frame rate just to experience them in Sony’s next-gen headset. There’s no mention of support for 3D movies, but Blu-rays will work – as will streaming applications, such as Netflix.

It’s worth adding that if you do decide to enjoy non-VR content in PSVR2, then there’ll be no output on your television screen. This means you’re probably not going to want to use the headset if you’re planning to enjoy something with friends and family – but obviously tethering a screen to your face is antithetical to being sociable anyway.

Will you be taking advantage of PSVR2’s Cinematic Mode at all? Get behind the goggles in the comments section below.

PSVR 2:
Sony has released a massive FAQ about the PlayStation VR2 on the PlayStation Blog ahead of the headset’s February 22 launch. It reveals some key new details about games for the platform, namely that over 100 PS VR2 titles are in development, and that Sony doesn’t plan on giving its games physical releases for now.

For the most part, the FAQ is full of basic information about the PlayStation VR2’s specs, how to set it up, and what’s required to use it. But the Games section of this FAQ reveals quite a few illuminating details about the future of the system. It reiterates that there will be around 30 launch titles for the system, but also reveals just how much is in the works for the headset. In response to the question, “How many games are in development for PS VR 2?” Sony writes, “There are currently more than 100 titles in development for PS VR2.”
