“The FTC is suing Microsoft to block its Activision Blizzard purchase. The FTC has filed a legal challenge to try and block Microsoft’s plan to buy Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion, according to a press release from the regulator. The lawsuit was filed today after weeks of back and forth between Microsoft, Sony, and regulators over competition concerns and the future of Call of Duty. The FTC argues that the acquisition would “enable Microsoft to suppress competitors to its Xbox gaming consoles and its rapidly growing subscription content and cloud-gaming business.”

“Sony Says It’s Resolved Long-Term PS5 Stock Shortages. Sony bigwig Jim Ryan told an audience at the PlayStation Partner Awards a few days ago that Sony has resolved PS5’s stock shortages. His message, targeted at publishing partners, added that it will be able to deliver the new-gen console to “many customers in Japan and Asia” starting “this year-end shopping season and into 2023”. Supply has been more readily available worldwide of late, although we’re not sure we’d describe the situation as resolved – anecdotally, we’re still yet to actually see a system in a shop.”

“Sony has announced a free PlayStation Plus online multiplayer weekend. Online multiplayer modes for PS4 and PS5 games will be accessible without a PlayStation Plus subscription from December 10-11, the company said.”

“The Last of Us: Part I on PC Costs Less Than PS5 Version. The Last of Us: Part I is by and large a very successful remake of one of Sony’s best games. However, upon launch, one thing left a bad taste in the mouths of its fans: the asking price. The PS5 remake costs $69.99/£69.99, which is quickly becoming an industry standard. It’s pretty darn steep, and left a sour aftertaste on what should’ve been a straightforward release. Things have complicated a little more now that the PC version has been dated. It’s coming on 3rd March 2023, and you can pre-order it right now on Steam and Epic Games Store. Fans quickly realised something, though — the game is priced $59.99/£49.99, a whole 10 dollars (or 20 pounds) less than the PS5 version.”

“Horizon Forbidden West DLC Takes Aloy to the Burning Shores Only on PS5. Interestingly, Burning Shores is coming exclusively to PS5. Horizon Forbidden West released on both PS5 and PS4, but it seems the DLC will skip Sony’s last-gen console. Writing on the PS Blog, Guerrilla Games calls it an “ambitious expansion”, and in order to “achieve this grand vision technically and creatively, we’ve made the difficult decision to focus all our efforts on making an incredible experience exclusively for the PlayStation 5 console”.
