“Sony Will Continue to Make PS4 Games Moving Forwards. Sony will not abandon the PS4, and it’s considering content for the last-gen console on a case-by-case basis. Outside of the upcoming God of War Ragnarok – which will release on both PS5 and PS4 – the manufacturer is being unprecedentedly secretive about its upcoming slate of first-party projects. We know that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine are in-development for the PS5, but beyond that, your guess is as good as ours. (Well, unless you read recent leaked documents, we guess.) However, Hermen Hulst – who’s the head of PlayStation Studios – is not ruling out further PS4 versions of its games moving into 2023 and beyond. “We certainly don’t want to forget the millions of active players on PS4, and we want to ensure there are great games for them as well,” he told newsletter Axios. “We’re evaluating it on a case-by-case basis.””

PS Studios boss Hermen Hulst toed a familiar line in his chat with gaming newsletter Axios, focusing predominantly on the platform holder’s push outside of its own ecosystem. There’s not an enormous amount of interesting information in the interview: the cost of Sony’s tentpole titles is rocketing, and adding PC as a platform is helping it to make a return on its investments. Meanwhile, its drive into mobile is still nascent, but it very much wants a piece of the pie.”
“PS5 Exclusives Will Take at Least One Year to Launch on PC. “I think going forward we’ll see at least a year between releases on our own platform, PlayStation, and on the PC platform – possibly with the exception of live service games,” he told French journalist Julien Chièze. “Live service games are a little bit different in nature because you want to have strong community and strong engagement. So we might, in the case of our live service games, go day-and-date with PC and the PlayStation platform.”
“New PS5 Firmware Update Available to Download Now. A new firmware update for the PS5 is available to download and install now, but don’t expect any major changes. The latest software – which weighs in at around 1.08GB – promises “improved system performance”, so expect various bug fixes and security tweaks behind-the-scenes, rather than any forward-facing features.

“PlayStation 5 Has Been Jailbroken: Here’s What That Means. The PlayStation 5 has been jailbroken, but players may not know what that really means. As this situation continues to develop, the exploit may evolve into something more comprehensive, but it is currently quite limited in scope and availability. This may not be a full-scale hack, but it does hint at potential trouble for Sony in the future. As reported by Video Games Chronicle, the PlayStation 5’s jailbreak is currently only known to function on consoles running version 4.03 of their firmware, regardless of whether they are disc or digital versions. This specific firmware version was in October 2021 and replaced in December 2021 by version 4.50. PS5s running older firmware may also be affected, but the exploit would have to be altered to do so.
