“Tokyo Game Show 2022 Confirms Major Publishers, But Sony Presence Seems Limited. Tokyo Game Show 2022 has opened its official website, which confirms a whole bunch of exhibitors, including a number of heavyweight publishers. Said publishers will be part of the ‘General Exhibition’, meaning that they’re going to have a relatively significant presence during the event. However, going off this initial list, it seems as though Sony won’t be at the show in force. Neither Sony Interactive Entertainment or PlayStation are listed under ‘General Exhibition’. Sony Interactive Entertainment does show up further down the exhibitors page, but it’s filed under the ‘Indie Game Corner’, which we can only assume is a section of the showfloor dedicated to indie titles and developers. Curious.”

“New Horizon Forbidden West Update Adds 40fps Mode, VRR Support. A new Horizon Forbidden West patch has added new graphical modes as well as VRR support to the open worlder. It is available to download now, weighing in at 711.9MB. Once installed and the game has been booted up, you’ll be able to select a new “Balanced” visual mode from the options that runs the game on PS5 at 40 frames-per-second. This means the game follows in the footsteps of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart with support for the different frame rate mode. Additionally, patch 1.17 adds official support for variable refresh rate and high refresh rate on supported TVs. The big update also has lots of bug fixes and tweaks, which you can check out below.”

“Sony Is Reportedly Hiring an Engineer To Bring PS3 Emulation to the PS5. Sony is reportedly hiring a “classics engineer” to develop new emulators. Some fans are hoping that the new hire will work on bringing PlayStation 3 emulations to the PlayStation 5. Reports over recent years have suggested that Sony may bring PS3 emulation to the new console, optimistic that gamers will still be able to play games from the older generation. While the job listing specifically references classics, some are still holding out hope that the company will invest resources into PS3 emulation. “Our Software Development Engineer position works on the Tools and Technology team at PlayStation Studios to support the newly relaunched Classics for PS4 and PS5,” the job description reads. “Classic games run via emulation of legacy PlayStation platforms.”
