The PS5 just got some bad news as it seems the chip shortage that has impacted every major electronics company could last until sometime in 2024. The PS5 shortage has only gotten worse as time goes on and now we have to wonder, what will Sony do? Well as it turns out Sony may have been prepared for this to an extent and they may actually have a solution.
According to reports from early 2021 Sony booked time with TSMC for a 5nm PS5 in 2023. This indicates that Sony is planning to release a PS5 slim and PS5 Pro by 2023. The 5nm node is what will allow Sony to produce significantly more PS5 units than they are currently able to, potentially solving the PS5 shortage problem. After all, with how many PS5 exclusives Sony has in development, they are going to do everything they can to ensure that have units to sell by the millions when these game launch. Hopefully this will result in way more PS5 restocks and resupplies.
