A lot is happening in the world of PlayStation starting with a new exclusive, a new state of playing coming in February, PSVR2 getting some major traction, and Hideo Kojima hinting at whats next for him and his team.
Starting with this new technically rumored playstation exclusive, reported by Tidux over on twitter a well renown insider that has proven to be reliable in the past says
“a exclusive action stealth open world game is greenlit and in development at playstation studios. Think mgs 5 meets splinter cell and you can approach the mission how ever you wan, guns blazing or never seen.”
He also goes on to say “as I don’t want to ruin the reveal I cant share more details. Yet”
Its hard to say what this could be and we could speculate all day about the possibilities but if I were to guess I think were looking at a brand new IP. Sony has mentioned in the past that they do want to bring new ip to the table while also doubling down on IP that have worked. It is also hard to say what studio could be working on this game but it is clear it is in house at PlayStation studios which is very promising.
Next up we have yet another info drop from Tidux who states “2022. Horizon Forbidden West State of Play planned for early February.”
I could see this happening. I don’t think this is necessary at all, as we have already seen plenty of this game and its also releasing in February. Is this look at the game again going to really convince those who haven’t already been convinced? Im doubtful. This has likely been sold to those who are interested in buying this day and date. Regardless I will tune in if it is true and we will be streaming this live.
Next up PSVR2, according to a Chinese analyst and reported by Brad Lynch who is a well known hardware analyst, the goertek company in china will begin the mass production of psvr2 soon.
In a tweet Brad Lynch says “Goertek, Chinese manufacturer, will be in charge of mass producing meta cambria and psvr 2 soon.”
If this proves to be accurate that means PSVR2 could see a release in late 2022 or early 2023 assuming everything goes according to plan and there aren’t any major hiccups in the production process. This also means we could see more information leak out as they naturally do once things get to the mass production phase. With many people involved keeping everything 100% under wraps can be very difficult even for the richest of companies.
Now lastly I want to talk about this Kojima tweet where he says “This year, im going to start a new work in earnest, and move to the next level of experimentation with a radical project. I’m also hoping to get the video team going. And I may start doing something like a radio project?”
So this is pretty vague as we expect in Kojima fashion. Again a tweet that could leave us with endless speculation. Touching on the many rumors out here about what Kojima could be working on when he states “radical project”, some people could say its Silent Hill, others will say its that rumored cloud based project, and some may even say it’s a completely new IP. Truth be told I have no idea where Kojimas next video game project will take him as he can be unpredictable at times. Kojima is clearly interested in other forms of entertainment and isn’t just talking about video games and this is also where I begin to question if he ever was talking about 2 video games being in production at all.
