“Sony And PlayStation Making A ‘Huge Strategic Error’ Continually Skipping E3. If E3 came and went this year and you were left thinking, “huh, where was Sony?” you weren’t alone. While many have wondered about Sony’s continued absence from E3 the past few years, few have been more vocal about it than Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter, who has laid into Sony for the practice on a recent episode of his show, Pachter Factor (via GamingBolt). His argument is that he believe Sony is doing this to cut costs, saving $20 million or so by not showing up at E3 in favor of producing their own standalone debuts, but he says the publicity alone is worth far more than that, and that Sony looks bad every time they don’t show up while rivals like Microsoft and Nintendo maintain a strong presence.

“The Iki Island Expansion will be available to all PS5 and PS4 players who upgrade to the Director’s Cut of Ghost of Tsushima. New story details and the official trailer for Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut’s Iki Island expansion have been revealed ahead of its August 20 release date on PS5 and PS4. As previously mentioned, the Iki Island story expansion will be available as part of the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PS4 and PS5 on August 20. The full version of the game will cost $69.99 on PS5 and $59.99 on PS4, but there are also upgrade paths available for those who already own the base game;

“GTA 5 is set to hit PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S this November, and when it does, it seems players on the newer consoles will have access to a couple of exclusive upgrades. Rockstar announced on Twitter that “select vehicles will be upgradable” on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game, with “all new speed improvements and more”. “These special upgrades will be available only on PS5 and Series X/S versions of GTA 5 – stay tuned for more details,” the tweet added.

“Psychonauts 2 Isn’t Getting a Native PS5 Version, XSX Will Offer 4K and 120fps Modes. Double Fine has been part of Xbox Game Studios for a while now, but their next game, Psychonauts 2, will still be available on PlayStation consoles as the game was announced before the Microsoft acquisition. According to Australian gaming site WellPlayed, Psychonauts 2 is not getting a native PS5 version – it will only be playable via backward compatibility. The PS4 Pro version of the game is also a bit disappointing, as it only runs at 1440p and 30fps (the Xbox One X version pushes a full 4K at 30fps). So yes, while the PS5 version does get a boost to 60fps via backward compatibility, it will only be 1440p. Oh, and it won’t have HDR either.

“New consoles are always expensive – but in certain parts of the world, they’re exceptionally pricy. The US dollar RRP of Sony’s (disc drive model) PlayStation 5 is set at $499 – but in the UK it’s officially £449, and about $750 in Australia, which works out as around $620 and $560 US respectively. Ergo, it’s more expensive to buy a PS5 in the UK and Australia than it is in the United States. But nowhere charges more for a new PlayStation 5 than Brazil does. Converted to US dollars, the local price of a PS5 in, say, Porto Alegre or Rio de Janeiro, is a massive $790. Almost $300 above the US RRP. Which is both wild and, inevitably, something gamers in Brazil are plenty peeved about.

“Xbox Series X And S Outsold Switch, PS5 In US Dollar Sales In June. NPD is reporting that Xbox is breaking its own records and besting its competition. In June, the Xbox Series X and S combined to outsell both the Nintendo Switch and Sony’s PS5 in terms of dollar sales. Dollar sales being how much actual cash they brought in, while unit sales are total units moved (Switch still won in unit sales). In the current state of the market, pretty much every modern day console is selling out either immediately or in a short amount of time, so simply the ability to make and ship more units than your competition is a big factor here. Sure, it’s possible maybe more people wanted PS5s than Xboxes, but if Sony couldn’t produce them, and Microsoft had higher output numbers, that could be a significant portion of the difference here.
