One of the more widely reported issues currently plaguing PS5 players are sudden and unexplained performance drops during gameplay, with some users reporting that their consoles are freezing or shutting down altogether. This problem appears to be with the PS5 console itself and is appearing across multiple titles, including the system’s bundled game, Astro’s Playroom. While there’s been no official word from Sony on how to resolve these issues, users have taken to Sony’s official PlayStation support account on Twitter, where Sony has been offering support via direct messages. We suggest anyone else experiencing similar issues do the same. The PS5’s problems, unfortunately, don’t stop there. As reported by Push Square, users are reporting that their PS5 console has required them to undergo a database rebuild following apparent corruption. Push Square reports that its own staff experienced the issue, after attempting to play a PS4 game from external storage. The console suddenly shut down and, upon reboot, required a database rebuild.
While one Reddit user has been able to fix their issues via a simple restart, after having undergone three rebuilds over the course of 45 minutes, other users are reporting more prevalent issues relating to database corruption.
Jeff Gerstmann, co-founder and editor of Giant Bomb, has identified that if the PS5 is put into rest mode, while Spider-Man Remastered is running, then the entire system will crash. When the PS5 is then booted up again, the user must undergo a rebuild of their database.
As with the other issues mentioned in this article, there’s no word on an official fix yet. However, Jeff Stevenson, community director at Insomniac Games (developers of Spider-Man Remastered), has said that this issue is being looked into.”

Insomniac Games’s latest outing, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has just gotten its first post-launch update, fixing crashes and other bugs. Insomniac Games’ latest PS5 exclusive Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has just received a new update aimed to take down some of the game’s most frustrating glitches. These adjustments will improve upon a title that has already earned copious amounts of praise thanks to its generation-leaping visuals and satisfying hybrid gameplay. This update is one of the first for the new Ratchet & Clank game, which released on June 11, with more patches likely coming in the future. Rift Apart is the first entry in the Ratchet and Clank series since Insomniac rebooted the franchise for the modern era in 2016. During this five-year gap, Insomniac worked on the highly lauded Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales games, both of which were also exclusives for the PS4 and PS5. Sony also purchased the studio in Summer 2019, giving the creators access to more resources. The studio looks to be making good use of those resources, too, with Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart being considered by many to be one of the best-looking games ever made, produced without overworking Insomniac employees. The game’s effective integration of ray tracing, native 4K resolution, and far-reaching draw distances are some of the factors that make it a graphical marvel. Insomniac is starting to remove the blemishes on its visual tour-de-force with this new update. Since nothing breaks immersion like a game crashing, one of the first issues the team is addressing is overall stability. Players have also been reporting other game-breaking – or at least game-pausing – problems since Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s release. With this patch, Insomniac has remedied some of the most common phenomena that have been causing players to get stuck and forcing them to restart their game. Other fixes include adjusting a latency glitch and general tuning.”
