Nintendo has posted their financial report for this past fiscal year showing that has now passed the Gameboy Advance as it moves closer to catching the Wii. The Switch is also posting some big time software sales showing it could be Nintendo’s most successful seller for games as well. Sony has been having a hard time getting enough PS5 systems out to meet demand and now a new report is pointing towards a serious move by Sony to redesign parts of the PS5 to make manufacturing more consoles possible.

Q: In what areas is the increased R&D being spent?
A: We are still mid way through Switch cycle, so software plus outsourcing costs are increasing for switch which is the main factor. Also cost per title is increasing and need a certain level of scale.— David Gibson (@gibbogame) May 6, 2021
Nintendo continues to invest heavily in R&D.
In FY2020/21 it spent approximately $880 million on R&D, more than any prior year.
Although I will note that this represented 5.3% of total revenue, which is a lower percentage than prior years, because of strong rev. growth. pic.twitter.com/RVgVg14uQs
